Karl Oyston: "Paul Ince dismissal was unpleasant"

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston says that it was the right time for Paul Ince to leave the club, following his dismissal as manager.

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has said that sacking Paul Ince was "the right thing to do".

The Seasiders announced that they had terminated the contract of manager Ince and his assistants Alex Rae and Steve Thompson earlier this afternoon.

The club have not won a game since the end of November, and Oyston admits that it was a tough decision, given their impressive start to the season.

"It was a really unpleasant thing to do," he told the club's official website. "I've only ever sacked one manager before. We do owe a great debt of gratitude to Paul and Alex for picking us up in disarray last season and securing our Championship status.

"We got off to a good start this season, the best in the club's history, so you have to weigh all those factors in, which made it a lot more difficult than the last time in my reign. We felt it was probably the right time and the right thing to do, to give whoever comes in a fresh start and clean slate to build for the future."

Barry Ferguson will take charge of first-team training on Thursday.
