Vincent Kompany: 'Belgium, England are dark horses'

Belgium captain Vincent Kompany believes that his country, along with England, are the dark horses to go a long way in the World Cup this summer.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has expressed his belief that Belgium and England are dark horses to win the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Belgium were impressive in qualifying for the tournament and, with a number of talented players, have been tipped to go a long way.

Kompany has accepted that they are not one of the favourites, but believes the side, along with a number of other teams, could still challenge as "anything is possible".

"In Belgium right now the only thing anyone is talking about is that moment when we play our first game, but I just think we all need to stay calm," he told the Daily Star Sunday.

"There are four or five teams who are clear favourites at these finals and they are the ones we need to compete against out there. After that, though, there are maybe ten dark horses for the tournament.

"Belgium are one of those countries - and England are part of that group as well. If any of these teams have a good run then anything is possible for them in Brazil."

Belgium's opening game in Brazil is against Algeria on June 17.
