Robert Lewandowski stars in Bayern Munich triumph

Robert Lewandowski scores twice as Bayern Munich cruise to a 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Bayern Munich moved a step closer to the Bundesliga title with a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt this afternoon.

The story for much of the first half was Frankfurt's efforts to handle the threat posed by Lewandowski, whose deflected header drifted just wide as Bayern responded to a confident start from the visitors.

Lewandowski continued to cause problems for the Frankfurt defence, and he was rewarded for his persistence when he collected a pass from Thomas Muller before finding the back of the net with a powerful volley.

The Polish forward could have added to his tally on two occasions midway through the first half, but Kevin Trapp responded well to keep out two firm strikes.

Trapp came to his side's rescue once again before the break to get a strong hand to Mario Gotze's effort after the attacking midfielder had linked up with Lewandowski.

Frankfurt wasted a good opportunity to get back on level terms early in the second half when Haris Seferovic dragged a poor shot into the path of Nelson Valdez, who could only send the ball over the crossbar.

Bayern punished the visitors for the miss when Lewandowski helped himself to his second of the afternoon by heading home after Gotze's effort had been cleared off the line.

Pep Guardiola's side wrapped up the win in style late on when a patient passing move resulted in Muller volleying home from a tight angle at the back post.
