Hoeness: 'Bilbao must pay Osasuna for Martinez'

Uli Hoeness says that it is not up to Bayern Munich to pay Osasuna for their part in Javi Martinez's development.

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has said that any fee owed to Osasuna for Javi Martinez should be paid by Athletic Bilbao.

The Spaniard has signed a five-year deal with the Bavarian giants, moving for a fee somewhere in the region of £34m.

Although Hoeness conceded that Osasuna are indeed owed money, he insists that it is Bilbao who must foot the bill.

"According to the laws of FIFA, Osasuna should receive money for the part they played in Martinez's career, but from Athletic," Hoeness told Suddeutsche Zeitung. "This has nothing to do with Bayern."

Martinez is the Bundesliga's record signing.
