Edinson Cavani 'turned down Barcelona move'

Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani reportedly rejected the chance to join Barcelona during the January transfer window.

The Uruguay international was widely expected to leave the French champions last month having handed in a transfer request at the club.

Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United were all linked with his services in the winter window, but the 32-year-old will now be with Thomas Tuchel's side until at least the end of the season.

According to L'Equipe, having lost Luis Suarez to a long-term knee injury, Barca attempted to bring Cavani to Camp Nou before the transfer deadline.

The report, though, claims that the South American rejected the chance to join the Spanish champions as he holds out for a move to Atletico once his contract expires this summer.

Barca will learn next week whether they will be allowed to make an emergency signing following Ousmane Dembele's latest hamstring injury, which is expected to see the Frenchman miss the rest of the season.
