Arguably the standout fixture in the third game week of the 2023-24 La Liga season will take place on Sunday afternoon, with Villarreal welcoming Barcelona to Estadio de la Ceramica.

Barcelona have picked up four points from their first two matches of the campaign to sit sixth in the table, while Villarreal are 10th, boasting three points from their opening two games.

We say: Villarreal 2-2 Barcelona

Barcelona found it difficult against Getafe on the opening weekend of the season, and this has the potential to be a very difficult game for Xavi's side. Villarreal have a lot of talent all over the pitch, and we are actually backing a high-scoring draw in Sunday's contest.

Valencia vs. Osasuna (Sunday, 6.30pm)

Valencia will be aiming to continue their 100% start to the new La Liga season when they welcome Osasuna to Mestalla on Sunday evening.

Los Che are up in third position in the table, boasting six points from their first two matches, while Osasuna are currently ninth, having picked up six points from their opening two league games of 2023-24.

We say: Valencia 1-1 Osasuna

Valencia are the form side and will certainly be the fresher of the two teams due to Osasuna's European commitments. Los Che still cannot be completely trusted to win games that they should, though, and we are tipping Osasuna to bounce back from successive losses to claim a welcome point.

Athletic will be missing some important players this weekend, but the same can also be said for Real Betis. We were close to backing an away win, and it would not be a surprise to see the visitors triumph here, but Athletic are good enough to claim a share of the spoils in front of their own supporters.
