Gerard Pique emerges as a doubt for Barcelona's second leg with Paris Saint-Germain

Barcelona's Gerard Pique could miss next week's Champions League last-16 second leg with Paris Saint-Germain due to a knee injury.

Barcelona's Gerard Pique has emerged as a serious doubt for next week's Champions League last-16 second leg with Paris Saint-Germain, having picked up a knee injury against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.

The 34-year-old, who has only just returned from a serious knee problem, played the full 120 minutes on Wednesday and came up with Barca's second of the night as they recorded a 3-0 victory in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final to advance to the final.

A statement from Ronald Koeman's side on Thursday, though, revealed that the experienced centre-back "has a sprain in the internal lateral ligament of his right knee".

The Catalan giants did not offer a timeframe in terms of Pique's return, but he has emerged as a major doubt for the clash with PSG, who hold a 4-1 lead from the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Oscar Mingueza, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti are currently Barca's three first-team options in the middle of their defence, with Ronald Araujo battling to overcome an ankle problem.

Koeman's team will resume their La Liga campaign away to an in-form Osasuna on Saturday night.
