Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will return to Barcelona this weekend to undergo tests on a back issue.
The 31-year-old had set to be involved in his national team's upcoming friendlies with Turkey and Austria, as the Euro 2024 hosts continue their preparation for next summer's tournament.
However, during his press conference, Nagelsmann said that Ter Stegen would not feature in either match due to a problem with his back, which will see him return to his club side Barcelona for tests.
"Marc-Andre ter Stegen will miss both games due to acute back pain. He will probably be travelling back to Barcelona tomorrow morning. The thing is, he won't be able to play or train," the Germany head coach told reporters on Friday.
Ter Stegen has again been in strong form for Barcelona during the 2023-24 campaign, making 17 appearances in all competitions, keeping eight clean sheets in the process.

The goalkeeper signed a new long-term contract at Camp Nou over the summer, meanwhile, with his deal now due to run until the summer of 2028.
The issue will be a concern for Barcelona ahead of their return to action, with Rayo Vallecano their next opponents in Spain's top flight on November 25.
The Catalan side will then switch their attention to the Champions League, welcoming Portuguese giants Porto for a key match in Group H on November 28.
Should Ter Stegen be absent for any period of time, Inaki Pena would likely be given the nod between the sticks, with the 24-year-old seen as the number two at Camp Nou.

Pena made five appearances for Barcelona during the 2022-23 campaign, including two outings in La Liga.
Xavi's side are also currently missing Sergi Roberto, with the experienced midfielder unlikely to be available for selection until the start of December.
Frenkie de Jong, meanwhile, has not featured since the end of September due to an ankle problem, but he is expected to return to training ahead of the clash with Rayo.
Barcelona have lost two of their last four matches in all competitions, which has led to criticism of head coach Xavi, but it is understood that there is no pressure on the 43-year-old despite claims that senior figures at Camp Nou were unhappy with the recent performances.
