Diego Godin signs Atletico Madrid extension

Diego Godin draws a line under speculation surrounding his Atletico Madrid future by inking a four-year extension.

Diego Godin has extended his Atletico Madrid contract until 2019.

The Uruguayan defender had been linked with a move to Manchester City this summer, but the 29-year-old has distanced himself from further speculation by penning a four-year extension.

Godin, who joined Atleti from Villarreal in 2010, has emerged as a key player in Diego Simeone's side and helped them to Liga triumph in 2014.

He was also ever present as the Rojiblancos reached the Champions League final in the same year, before losing to bitter rivals Real Madrid.

The Uruguay captain has made over 200 appearances for the capital club.
