Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi has revealed his delight following Sunday's 2-0 win over Real Betis.

The three points moved the capital outfit into first position in La Liga, which remained the case at the end of the evening after Barcelona beat Real Madrid in El Clasico.

"Betis played well and caused us trouble in the first half and the beginning of the second but with the sending off, which I think was fair, we've improved," he told reporters.

"We knew that Betis were going to be strong at home and they would be a major rival because the league doesn't show how you're doing.

"We're worthy of staying at the top of the league and our victory was fair. We had to work hard. We're working to be among the best teams in the final nine games and they are there to be win.

"We're doing well and our results are worth noticing. The secret is unity, we're a team and we all play the same way. We're ambitious for great things."

Gabi opened the scoring in Seville.
