Sunday's Major League Soccer predictions including Inter Miami vs. Montreal

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Major League Soccer fixtures, including Inter Miami vs. Montreal.

Atlanta vs. NY City (Sunday, 7.30pm)

Atlanta United welcome New York City FC to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on the final day of the MLS season this Sunday.

The home side sit in 11th, unable to make the playoffs, whereas New York City know a draw will likely cement their place in third ahead of local rivals New York Red Bulls.

We say: Atlanta United 1-2 New York City FC

Although Atlanta are a strong proposition at home, they have little to play for in their final game, whereas New York City have the motivation of finishing above their local rivals.

Recent form and the fact that the away side will still be on a high following recent cup glory just gives them the edge here.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Chicago Fire vs. New England (Sunday, 7.30pm)

Chicago Fire welcome New England Revolution to Soldier Field on the final day of the MLS league season this Sunday.

Neither side can finish inside the playoffs, but victory for Chicago along with a six-goal swing will see them leapfrog their opponents in the table.

We say: Chicago Fire 1-1 New England Revolution

There was nothing to separate the two sides in the last meeting, and with nothing of note to play for it would be hard to expect a high-scoring game. The teams are most likely to cancel each other out and end the season sharing the spoils.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

DC United vs. Cincinnati (Sunday, 7.30pm)

Geoff Cameron in action for FC Cincinnati on October 1, 2022© Reuters

FC Cincinnati can secure a place in the MLS playoffs if they avoid defeat at already-eliminated DC United on the final day of the regular season on Sunday.

Pat Noonan's side could still finish as high as fifth if they beat DC, who will finish bottom of the Eastern Conference with the worst record across the entire league.

We say: DC United 1-2 FC Cincinnati

The pressure of the game will make this a tense affair for FC Cincinnati, but they should be able to get past a DC United team that has not won in five games.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Inter Miami vs. Montreal (Sunday, 7.30pm)

Inter Miami wrap up the MLS regular season on Sunday when they welcome CF Montreal to DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

Even though both teams are assured of at least one post-season fixture, they both have plenty to play for as Montreal can top the Eastern Conference with a win and a Philadelphia Union draw or loss, while a Herons victory, combined with a New York Red Bulls defeat would give Miami a home playoff game.

We say: Inter Miami 1-2 CF Montreal

Both of these sides have come a long way from a season ago, but we are giving Montreal the edge because they have managed to win matches thanks to some solid collective efforts, whereas Miami have depended heavily on their designated players, Higuain and Campana, to get by.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

NY Red Bulls vs. Charlotte FC (Sunday, 7.30pm)

New York Red Bulls boss Gerhard Struber on September 17, 2022© Reuters

The New York Red Bulls are looking to bounce back from back-to-back defeats when they host Charlotte FC at the Red Bull Arena on Sunday, in their final MLS fixture of the regular season.

Meanwhile, the visitors' draw with Columbus in midweek was not enough to keep their playoff hopes alive heading into Decision Day.

We say: New York Red Bulls 1-1 Charlotte FC

New York Red Bulls have suffered a slump in form in recent weeks, picking up just three points out of a possible nine available.

A point here would be enough for them to hold onto fourth place, and give them a home playoff game. Meanwhile, Charlotte will be keen to keep their unbeaten run alive by getting a positive result.

Orlando City vs. Columbus Crew (Sunday, 7.30pm)

Decision Day in the 2022 MLS campaign is fast approaching, as Orlando City and the Columbus Crew will square off at Exploria Stadium on Sunday, knowing that a victory for either side would assure them of a spot in the post-season.

Currently, the Crew are clinging to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 46 points, one more than the Lions.

We say: Orlando City 2-1 Columbus Crew

The Crew have an edge in terms of individual quality and match-winners, but they have had far too many defensive breakdowns this season at the most inopportune times, not the mention they have had a miserable campaign away from home, losing more road games than any side in MLS (10).

If this match were in Columbus, we would be inclined to predict a victory for the Crew, however, the Lions have been much more disciplined and solid defensively at home, which we believe will frustrate the visitors.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Philadelphia vs. Toronto (Sunday, 7.30pm)

Jakob Glesnes in action for Philadelphia Union on October 1, 2022© Reuters

The Philadelphia Union need a win against Toronto on Sunday at Subaru Park to officially clinch first place in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer.

Heading into Decision Day, the Union are two points ahead of CF Montreal for first but have won fewer games, while the Reds have dropped four straight contests, which is one shy of their season high.

We say: Philadelphia Union 3-1 Toronto

It is no secret that the Reds have been poor defensively throughout the campaign, and that has been especially evident away from home, where they have conceded multiple goals on 11 occasions this year.

The Union are not as bad on the back end as their previous match might indicate, and we anticipate them to be a lot stingier on Sunday, while Curtin has numerous scoring options who are capable of finding the back of the net at any moment.

Our tipster partners are predicting a home win.

Austin vs. Colorado (Sunday, 10.00pm)

Jhohan Romana in action for Austin FC on October 1, 2022© Reuters

The final game of the regular Major League Soccer season will take place on Sunday for Austin FC and Colorado Rapids when they compete at the Q2 Stadium.

The hosts have a guaranteed second-placed finish regardless of this result, while the visitors have a very slim chance of earning a playoff finish.

We say: Austin FC 1-2 Colorado Rapids

Austin FC might be the stronger of the two teams on paper due to their league position, but because they have got nothing to play for in this match they might not end up being at their best here.

Colorado Rapids could earn a place in the MLS playoffs with a victory, and that is why they might end up taking all three points in this game.

Dallas vs. Kansas (Sunday, 10.00pm)

FC Dallas boss Nico Estevez on October 1, 2022© Reuters

The final round of matches of the MLS regular season sees Dallas host Sporting Kansas City on Sunday at the Toyota Stadium.

Dallas fell to the Colorado Rapids last time out, while the visitors, despite being eliminated from post-season contention, narrowly beat the Seattle Sounders.

We say: Dallas 1-1 Sporting Kansas City

Kansas City come into this game in the much better form and, due to having already missed out on a playoff place, are playing with much more freedom.

However, despite Dallas' poor showings in recent weeks, they have made the Toyota Stadium somewhat of a fortress, and they will be eager to hold onto third spot in the Western Conference.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Houston vs. LA Galaxy (Sunday, 10.00pm)

Javier Hernandez celebrates scoring for Los Angeles Galaxy on August 28, 2022© Reuters

Los Angeles Galaxy will secure a home tie in the first round of the MLS playoffs if they can beat already-eliminated Houston Dynamo on Sunday.

Galaxy currently sit in fourth place in the tight Western Conference and could finish anywhere between third and seventh depending on other results.

We say: Houston Dynamo 0-2 Los Angeles Galaxy

Galaxy will be too strong for Dynamo in the end, and the desire to get that first round home game will propel them over the line in rather comfortable fashion.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Los Angeles vs. Nashville (Sunday, 10.00pm)

Denis Bouanga celebrates scoring for Los Angeles FC on October 2, 2022© Reuters

A pair of Western Conference sides who are both playoff-bound will square off on Sunday as Nashville SC visit Banc of California Stadium for the first time in their MLS history to battle Los Angeles FC.

Last weekend, the Black and Gold claimed their second-ever Supporters' Shield crown thanks to a 2-1 win versus the Portland Timbers, while the Boys in Gold dropped their previous encounter 2-1 against the Houston Dynamo.

We say: Los Angeles FC 2-1 Nashville SC

It may be a nothing game for LA in the standings, but we expect the Black and Gold to dress many of their best players knowing they will have a lengthy break before opening the MLS Cup playoffs.

Nashville have been stingier on the backline of late, but much of their offence has been built around Mukhtar, while the depth of LA we feel is just a little better.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Minnesota Utd vs. Vancouver (Sunday, 10.00pm)

Minnesota United boss Adrian Heath on August 27, 2022© Reuters

Minnesota United face Vancouver Whitecaps at Allianz Field in a huge match on the final day of the MLS Western Conference on Sunday.

The home side head into the game knowing that either a win or a draw will be enough to secure a place in the playoffs, while a win for Vancouver would mean that they overtake their opponents and take the crucial seventh spot for themselves.

We say: Minnesota United 1-1 Vancouver Whitecaps

Despite their recent form, we expect Minnesota United to just about get over the line and make the playoffs, although it will be with a draw.

Vancouver Whitecaps have not won away from home since June, and it will be too much of an ask for them to end this run in such a crucial game.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Salt Lake vs. Portland (Sunday, 10.00pm)

Portland Timbers travel to America First Field to take on Real Salt Lake in a pivotal MLS Western Conference match this Sunday.

On what is the final day of the regular season, both sides are battling for the playoffs, but only one can finish in the all-important top seven.

We say: Real Salt Lake 1-1 Portland Timbers

Real Salt Lake have struggled in recent matches, and so we do not think they will be able to turn this form around in the last game of the season.

Portland Timbers are in decent form, and should be good enough to get the vital point needed to secure a place in the playoffs, in what will be a cagey affair.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 1.5 goals.

Seattle vs. Earthquakes (Sunday, 10.00pm)

Fredy Montero celebrates scoring for Seattle Sounders on September 27, 2022© Reuters

Despite the fact that neither team will be part of the Major League Soccer playoff games this season, Seattle Sounders and San Jose Earthquakes will be hoping to finish their regular campaigns in a strong fashion.

The hosts come into this match without a victory in their previous three outings, meanwhile, the visitors will be attempting to get themselves off the foot of the table.

We say: Seattle Sounders 0-2 San Jose Earthquakes

Neither team can progress into the MLS playoffs, but out of the two, it is San Jose Earthquakes who have the most to play for in this game.

The visitors will not want to finish the season bottom of the league, and the desire to finish higher than that could be the difference maker here.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 1.5 goals.
