Athletic Bilbao defender Mikel San Jose has claimed that his club boss Ernesto Valverde has all of the qualities needed to manage La Roja when Vicente del Bosque steps down from the position.
It is widely expected that Del Bosque, who has been in charge of Spain since 2008, will leave his role with the national team after Euro 2016.
A number of candidates have already been discussed, but San Jose has said that Valverde should be high on the list of names.
"We have a coach at the moment, so we'll see happens. I can only say that Valverde's an ideal candidate. He's a technical coach and always instilled character in his team to dominate games. He's a similar coach to Del Bosque," San Jose told reporters.
San Jose is currently with the Spain squad ahead of their final Euro 2016 qualifier against Ukraine on Monday evening.
