Aston Villa 'bid for Valencia wonderkid Carles Gil'

Talented Valencia youngster Carles Gil reportedly emerges as a £3.9m target for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have reportedly lodged a £3.9m bid for Valencia attacking midfielder Carles Gil.

The 22-year-old, who spent two seasons at Elche on loan, has broken into Los Che's first-team picture, featuring eight times for the La Liga outfit and was rumoured to have attracted interest from Everton last year.

However, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague tweeted that Villa boss Paul Lambert has lodged a bid for the player.

Gil has been likened to Real Madrid midfielder Isco in terms of his inventive attacking play.

Villa are currently level on points with Everton in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
