Aston Villa defender Chris Herd is close to completing a loan move to Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic, according to a report.
The 25-year-old, who came through the youth academy at Villa Park, has not played for Paul Lambert's side since December 2013 and is out of contract in the summer.
Wigan boss Malky Mackay is now on the verge of agreeing a deal to bring the Australian international to the DW Stadium for the remainder of the season, reports the Daily Mail.
Herd, who can play across the defence or in midfield, spent a short period on loan at Bolton Wanderers earlier this season, playing three games for Neil Lennon's side.
He made his debut for Australia in September last year, and has won three caps for the Socceroos.
