Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood: 'We cannot dwell on departures'

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood is adamant that his side have to move on from the departures of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph ahead of the new Premier League season.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has insisted that his side cannot dwell on the departures of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph.

Both players left the club to join Liverpool and Manchester City respectively as Villa collected £40m in transfer fees for the duo.

Sherwood's men have reinvested the cash with deals for Rudy Gestede, Jordan Veretout, Jordan Ayew, Jordan Amavi and Idrissa Gueye, and the 46-year-old is hopeful that the new signings can settle quickly at Villa Park.

He told the club's official website: "It's a rebuilding process going on here and people are working very hard behind the scenes to help me acquire the new signings. We can't worry about what we have lost. That's been and gone.

"It's my job now to rebuild this squad and make it competitive in the Premier League this season. We're gradually improving. It's my job now to gel these guys as quick as possible.

"We are going to do morning and afternoon sessions - plenty of 11-a-sides - so they get the message as early as possible. It is going to take time but in the end we will get it right."

Villa open their Premier League campaign against newly-promoted Bournemouth next week.
