Paul Lambert thrilled by Ashley Westwood display against Liverpool

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert hails Ashley Westwood for his "brilliant" display during Saturday's 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has heaped praise on Ashley Westwood for his performance during Saturday's win over Liverpool.

The midfielder, 24, played a key role for Villa at Anfield as they continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 victory.

"In the two years I have been here he has been so consistent," Lambert told the club's official website. "He's a lad who probably doesn't get talked about because he makes the game look so easy.

"He's been outstanding. He makes everything look so simple. He does the easy things brilliantly. What I mean by that is he can pass a two-yard ball and never give it away - some people don't want to do that. I just thought he was brilliant."

Saturday's win over Liverpool has seen the Villans move up to second place in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Chelsea.
