Stan Collymore warns Aston Villa against Tim Sherwood appointment

Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore believes that Tim Sherwood would not be the right man to manage the club following the sacking of Paul Lambert.

Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore believes that Tim Sherwood would not be the right man to succeed Paul Lambert as manager.

Lambert was sacked by the Midlands club on Wednesday following the 2-0 defeat at Hull City, which extended their winless run to 10 Premier League games.

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Sherwood has been immediately linked with the role, but Collymore believes that Villa need an experienced manager at the helm.

"I just want to see someone really experienced that can make good signings in the summer time, that can work on a strict budget which Aston Villa have got and be able to do the basics like motivate players and organise a team, which Paul Lambert just didn't do," Collymore told talkSPORT.

"I'm not convinced by Tim Sherwood, it's a huge job [at Aston Villa]. I've got a sneaking feeling it might be Tim Sherwood but I don't think it should be. It should be a very experienced manager but the question is how many are out there at the moment?"

Sherwood has been recently linked with the vacant manager's job at Queens Park Rangers.
