French centre-back William Saliba suggests that he is keen to stay at Arsenal on a long-term basis.

William Saliba has suggested that he is keen to stay at Arsenal on a long-term basis amid claims that the North London club are keen to sign him to a new contract.

The 21-year-old agreed a move to the Gunners in 2019, but he then had spells on loan with Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille before officially becoming part of the first-team squad this summer.

Saliba has been a vital player for Mikel Arteta's side during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring twice and providing one assist in seven Premier League appearances.

Last month, 90min reported that Arsenal were keen to sign the Frenchman to a new contract, with his current terms at the Emirates Stadium due to expire in the summer of 2024.

Saliba scored his second Premier League goal of the campaign in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Brentford on Sunday, and he said after his match that he felt "at home" at the club.

"Yes, for sure. I'm at home here. I like London, I like the club, I like everything. I feel at home here," Saliba told Sky Sports News.

Arsenal boss Arteta was also keen to pay tribute to Saliba after the win over Brentford, with the Spaniard revealing that the centre-back had not managed to train for 10 days before the game.

"He's been superb," Arteta told Sky Sports News. "He hasn't trained for 10 days. He had some discomfort, he's been hanging, he only had one training session and he comes in and competes the way he's done it.

"As well, the ugly part of the game that people won't recognise too much. It's true, he deserves some credit."

Meanwhile, speaking ahead of the game with Brentford, Saliba revealed that Arteta was key to keeping him at the club this summer.

"We spoke a bit at the beginning of the season. He was happy with what I did whilst on loan. He's a very good coach, who really knows what he's doing. He is clear in everything that he says," Saliba told Canal+.

The centre-back starred for Marseille during the 2021-22 campaign, helping the club secure second spot in the Ligue 1 table, which saw them qualify for this season's Champions League.

Saliba's partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes in the middle of the defence has seen Ben White shifted across to right-back in the opening weeks of this season.

The Arsenal centre-back has been included in the latest France squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Austria and Denmark.
