Arsene Wenger admits to feeling pressure over summer spending

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that the club are under pressure to spend money this summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is under pressure to make signings this summer, but insists that he will only spend money to recruit the right players.

Gunners fans have grown increasingly frustrated with lack of new arrivals at the Emirates Stadium during the close season, with only French striker Yaya Sanogo added to Wenger's squad so far.

Wenger has had a pair of bids rejected for Liverpool forward Luis Suarez in recent weeks, but remains confident of adding quality players before the transfer window closes.

He told reporters at a pre-match press conference for the Emirates Cup: "If you say we are under pressure to spend money, then yes we are. But I feel more under pressure to spend the money in the right way. That's what I will try to do.

"We want to spend it if it strengthens our team. Just spending money is not a quality. Spending the money, buying the right players that is a quality and of course we are in favour of it. But it has to be the right players.

"I'm always pretty relaxed because I always feel I will try to make the decision which I feel is right for the club. It doesn't mean I always manage to do it. But I work with that conscience."

Arsenal continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Napoli this afternoon.
