Arsenal have agreed terms with German international Per Mertesacker, the club has revealed.
The 26-year-old has joined the Gunners for a reported £10m fee from Werder Bremen, where he was the club captain.
The deal is subject to the completion of formal registration processes.
Mertesacker has made 75 appearances for the German national team.
He has become the second defender to join Arsene Wenger's side in the last hour following the arrival of Andre Santos at the Emirates Stadium.
