Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira will only return to Arsenal this summer if he is guaranteed regular action next season, according to a report.

Lucas Torreira will reportedly only return to Arsenal this summer if he is guaranteed regular action next season.

The 25-year-old was allowed to join Atletico Madrid on loan last October, with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta deeming him surplus to requirements for the 2020-21 campaign.

Torreira has featured on 22 occasions for Diego Simeone's side this term but has only started three La Liga matches for the capital giants since his arrival.

As it stands, the Uruguay international is due to head back to the Emirates Stadium this summer, and he still has more than two years left to run on his contract at the North London club.

However, according to The Athletic, Torreira is not prepared to return to Arsenal if he is not part of Arteta's plans and wants assurances over playing time next season.

The midfielder has made 89 appearances for the Gunners since arriving from Sampdoria in 2018.
