Liverpool are reportedly considering signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window.

Following an underwhelming campaign, which will end without a trophy, Liverpool are expected to bolster their squad ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The midfield is one area that will certainly need to be strengthened, with Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham was initially Liverpool's main target for the summer transfer window, but they have decided against spending a large proportion of their budget on the England international.

As a result, they have turned their search to other options, including Chelsea's Mason Mount and Brighton & Hove Albion's Alexis Mac Allister.

According to The Athletic journalist James Pearce, Tielemans is also a potential summer target for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Speaking on the Walk On podcast, Pearce said: "Yeah, Tielemans I would put in the bracket of being a possibility just because he's free.

"I think if you were talking about a significant fee for him then probably not. What is he? 26.

"Let's say Liverpool sign Mac Allister and Mount, you're not getting much change out of £130m, and then Tielemans would make sense."

Tielemans has registered 28 goals and 25 assists in 192 appearances for Leicester, but his four-year spell with the Foxes is coming to an end.

The Belgium international is out of contract at the end of the season, and there is no indication that he will sign a new deal with the club.

Even if Leicester manage to avoid relegation from the Premier League, Tielemans is expected to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.

The midfielder, who has previously been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle United, is not expected to decide his next destination until the summer.

Tielemans will be hoping to get the better of Liverpool when Leicester welcome the Reds to the King Power Stadium for Monday's Premier League meeting.

With three games left to play in the 2022-23 campaign, the Foxes are languishing in the relegation zone with two points separating them from safety.
