Manchester City will reportedly allow Aymeric Laporte to leave the club if they complete the signing of RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

Aymeric Laporte will reportedly be allowed to leave Manchester City if they sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

The Spain international has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer despite having two years left on his contract.

Laporte was a key part of Pep Guardiola's side for several seasons, but his role was reduced during the 2022-23 campaign.

With the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake above him in the pecking order, Laporte had to settle for 24 appearances across all competitions last term.

Laporte is seemingly keen to gain regular playing time, and his current situation has caught the attention of a number of clubs.

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus have all been linked, while there has been a suggestion that Crystal Palace are lining up a surprise move.

Laporte's future is far from a foregone conclusion, though, with BBC Sport reporting that he will only be allowed to leave if Man City sign Gvardiol.

The Croatia international has been on Man City's radar for most of the summer, and there were rumours that a deal had been agreed with Leipzig.

However, Leipzig boss Marco Rose played down reports that an agreement had been reached, raising doubts about a potential move to the European champions.

A recent report suggested that Die Roten Bullen are prepared to put a deadline on agreeing a deal with Man City for Gvardiol.

The German club want his future to be resolved by August 12, as they hold out on their €100m (£85.7m) asking price.

If Man City are unable to prise Gvardiol away from the Bundesliga side, Laporte could stay on at the Etihad Stadium for at least one more season.

Since joining the Citizens from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, Laporte has gone on to make 179 appearances, chipping in with 12 goals.

The 29-year-old scored the winner in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich at the National Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.
