Juventus 'begin talks over Kalvin Phillips loan deal'

Juventus have reportedly opened talks over a potential loan deal for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The 27-year-old is set to leave in the January transfer window after failing to establish himself in the side since arriving from Leeds United in the summer of 2022.

Phillips was restricted to just two Premier League starts during his first season at the Etihad Stadium.

The England international has continued to struggle for playing time in the current campaign, having failed to start any of Man City's 11 Premier League fixtures.

With Phillips likely to leave the Citizens in the new year, Juventus are one of several teams showing an interest in securing his services.

A recent report suggested that the Italian giants had doubts about Phillips's suitability and whether to pursue a January move.

However, according to Gazzetta della Sport, Juventus are still keen to sign the Englishman in the winter transfer window.

The report claims that the Serie A club have stepped up their efforts, having opened talks over a potential loan switch.

Man City are willing to allow Phillips to leave on a six-month loan deal, and a move to Juventus could suit both clubs, with the Citizens reluctant to offload him to a Premier League or Champions League rival.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is keen to sign a new midfielder after seeing his current options affected by off-field issues.

Nicolo Fagioli was recently handed a seven-month ban for violating betting rules, while Paul Pogba is facing a lengthy suspension after testing positive for non-endogenous testosterone.

While Phillips is regarded as a priority target, Juventus are also considering Tottenham Hotspur's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Atletico Madrid's Rodrigo De Paul and Udinese's Lazar Samardzic.

Phillips, meanwhile, is also believed to be attracting interest from Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Bayern Munich.
