Discussions between Arsenal and Barcelona over a loan move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang break down, according to a report.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly heading back to London after discussions between Arsenal and Barcelona over a loan move for the forward broke down.

The 32-year-old has recently been in Barcelona, with the La Liga outfit said to be keen to acquire the Gabon international on loan for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.

However, according to The Athletic, discussions between the two clubs have broken down following a disagreement over the planned salary coverage from the Catalan team.

The report claims that the forward is now heading back to London and will not be joining Xavi's side unless the financially-hit outfit change their proposal in the coming hours.

Aubameyang has not played for the Gunners since being stripped of the captaincy in December, although he has recently been with the Gabon squad at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The forward, who has scored seven times and registered two assists in 15 outings for Mikel Arteta's side this season, is also believed to have been the subject of interest from Juventus and Al-Hilal.
