Atletico Madrid 'in talks with Arsenal over Lucas Torreira'

Atletico Madrid are reportedly in talks with Arsenal over a possible deal for Lucas Torreira.

The Uruguay international was a regular for the Gunners during the 2019-20 campaign, making 39 appearances in all competitions, including 29 outings in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has not been involved for Mikel Arteta's side this term, though, as the speculation surrounding his future continues to gather pace.

Torreira is believed to be keen on a return to Italy, but according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Atletico are currently holding discussions with Arsenal over a possible move.

Romano claims that the Spanish outfit are keen to sign the midfielder on loan with the option to buy, but the Gunners want to sell him in order to raise additional transfer funds to improve their squad.

Torreira has a contract at the Emirates Stadium until the summer of 2023.
