Arsenal have reportedly been dealt a blow in their bid to secure a deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.
At a time when he has a release clause of £43m, there have been suggestions in recent months that Partey is open to taking on a new challenge away from Wanda Metropolitano.
While a number of clubs are said to hold an interest, Arsenal are widely regarded as the frontrunners for the Ghana international.
However, according to GhanaSoccernet.com, the 27-year-old is now likely to pen fresh terms with the La Liga outfit.
The report suggests that Atletico are prepared to double Partey's wages, providing that they can do the same with his release clause.
Such a move would realistically put the player out of contention for a future exit unless Atletico agree to the sale.
