Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur prepare to battle for Newcastle United centre-back Fabian Schar, according to a report.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United centre-back Fabian Schar in this summer's transfer window.

Schar joined Newcastle from Deportivo La Coruna ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, with the Magpies activating the defender's £3m release clause to bring him to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has contributed three goals in 18 Premier League appearances this term, with his recent form key to helping Rafael Benitez's side win five of their last eight top-flight fixtures.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal and Tottenham both looked at the defender during his time at Basel, and the North London rivals are ready to reignite their interest at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

Schar, who is a 47-time Switzerland international, has a contract at St James' Park until the end of the summer of 2021.
