Arsene Wenger: 'We're too far away from Chelsea in title hunt'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that his team are currently "too far away" from leaders Chelsea, but has not ruled out a Premier League title charge.

Arsene Wenger has not given up on his Arsenal side winning the Premier League title, but admits that currently they are "too far away" from leaders Chelsea.

The top of the table has opened up after both Chelsea and second-placed Manchester City dropped points last weekend.

The Gunners are seven points behind Jose Mourinho's side with nine games left to play and have won their last five league fixtures.

"At the moment we are too far away from Chelsea, but we have the opportunity every week to get closer and for that we need positive results from us and negative results from Chelsea - thats the only thing we can master," Wenger told reporters in today's press conference.

Manchester United are just one point behind the Gunners in fourth, while Liverpool are two points from a Champions League spot, and Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur are also not far behind.

When asked if Liverpool could finish second, Wenger said: "They are in the hunt, yes. We are on the neck of Man City but as well behind us we have Man United and Liverpool. It's very tight. Tottenham are not out of it and Southampton are not out of it."

This Saturday, Arsenal will take on Newcastle United at St James' Park.
