Arsene Wenger questions whether England can produce "quality" players

Arsene Wenger questions whether England can produce players with the "needed quality" to match those of the foreign contingent in the Premier League.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that England should try to produce players with the "needed quality" to thrive at the top level.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke recently stated that having too many foreigners in the Premier League is stifling the development of the England national setup, sparking a debate within the game.

"There's only two ways you can see it - you have the opportunity to have the best players in the world in England, so let's see what they have and let's produce players who have the same qualities," BBC Sport quotes Wenger as saying.

"Or you say, let's protect our players, keep the good players out and let's just play the English players. I believe that we live in a global world. The real questions for English football is whether it can produce the players with the needed quality."

Following a study, BBC Sport have found that English footballers account for less than a third of all the minutes played in the Premier League.
