Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'I didn't take train station abuse personally'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that he did not take last year's abuse from his own fans "personally".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that he did not take last year's abuse from fans at a train station "personally".

The Frenchman and his players will return to the Britannia Stadium on Sunday almost a year after he suffered verbal abuse by his own fans at Stoke railway station.

Supporters were angry after the Gunners recorded a 3-2 defeat on away soil.

Ahead of this weekend's fixture, Wenger told reporters that he and his players will take the train again, but is not concerned about a repeat of the incident.

"We travel in what we think is the best and the shortest way," Wenger said in Friday's press conference. "You want as well not to be isolated too much because you want contact with people who love the club, you want contact with the fans.

"I took it as people who were upset because we lost a game and didn't take it personally. It was my function and the fact that I'm responsible for the club that was attacked.

"I was sad and upset more by the result than by the individual reactions of people, which I can understand. When you love a club, you want the results to be positive. That problem will be more common now. I think it will be a problem in the next two or three years. I see it in France and many countries."

Arsenal are currently at the top of the Premier League table, level on points with second-placed Leicester City.
