Phil Parkinson: "These fans deserve it"

Phil Parkinson praises the Bradford City fans after booking their place in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup.

Bradford City manager Phil Parkinson believes that tonight's victory over Arsenal has "put the club back on the map".

The Bantams - currently fourth in League Two - upset the Gunners to book their place in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup at Valley Parade this evening.

Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen had cancelled out Garry Thompson's early opener, but the hosts progressed amid the drama of penalties, leaving them two matches from a potential Wembley final.

Parkinson, 45, hailed the atmosphere created by the home fans, stating that the city "deserves" this moment.

"The lads were terrific tonight," Parkinson told Sky Sports News. "The discipline was first class against such a talented team like Arsenal.

"The talk will be about the penalties but the overall performance was excellent tonight. The way the lads stuck at the task was a credit to them. The stadium was full, the atmosphere was incredible and we want to put the club back on the map again.

"These fans deserve it, the city deserves it."

Aston Villa defeated Norwich City in tonight's other quarter-final.
