Alan Pardew: 'Referee was too lenient with Francis Coquelin'

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew believes that referee Lee Mason was too lenient on Arsenal's Francis Coquelin in their Premier League meeting at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has criticised the referee in charge of his side's Premier League clash against Arsenal - which finished 2-1 to the Gunners - over his lenient treatment of Francis Coquelin.

The Gunners midfielder was shown a yellow card on 41 minutes for a sliding challenge on Yannick Bolasie.

He was then let off by Lee Mason either side of the break for subsequent fouls before Arsene Wenger substituted him midway through the second half.

Pardew told Sky Sports News: "I said to Lee Mason, 'listen. That tackle before half time is not a sending off at that point but that's his last chance, you know that'.

"He then makes the foul and he's (should be) off at that point. Arsene Wenger knew that and took him off. It's a decision Lee Mason needs to be braver on."

Arsenal claimed all three points at Selhurst Park thanks to Olivier Giroud's first-half scissor kick and Damien Delaney's own goal in the second half.
