Frank McLintock concerned by Arsenal's lack of depth in attack

Former Arsenal captain Frank McLintock says that he is worried by a lack of striking options in the Arsenal squad.

Former Arsenal captain Frank McLintock has said that he is concerned by the lack of striking options available to manager Arsene Wenger.

Olivier Giroud has started all 10 of Arsenal's Premier League games so far this campaign, including yesterday's 2-0 victory over Liverpool, but McLintock has said that there is not enough cover for the Frenchman.

"I was very disappointed that we didn't get another centre-forward before the season started," he told BBC Radio 5Live. "We've only got Giroud and sometimes Lukas Podolski can play in that position, but he's not as good when playing as a centre forward – he looked quite lost and it's the same with Theo Walcott.

"If Giroud gets injured for any length of time, then all the good work that has been done already could go out of the window.

"We have a history at Arsenal of long-term injuries. If that happens to Giroud, then unless we get someone in January that's a potential weakness."

McLintock made 314 appearances in a nine-year spell with the Gunners.
