Wigan boss Roberto Martinez describes Arsene Wenger as one of the best managers in the world.

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has described Arsene Wenger as one of the best managers in world football ahead of his side's match against the Gunners this weekend.

The Spaniard, who has been under fire following the Latics' poor start to the season, also said that criticism of the Frenchman is unjustified after the North London club's early dip in form.

"Arsene Wenger is one of the best managers in world football. It is an example of the times that we live in that even he can get criticised," said Martinez.

"It makes you wonder - have we all gone mad? We get carried away with an incident or a result.

"To see someone like Arsene Wenger with doubters makes me ask, 'what's wrong with public opinion around football?'"

Wigan host Arsenal in the Premier League later today (Saturday).
