Granit Xhaka named new Arsenal captain?

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is reportedly appointed as the new club captain, with Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the running to be his vice.

Arsenal's players have voted for midfielder Granit Xhaka to be the new club captain, according to a report.

Manager Unai Emery allowed his players to vote on the new skipper following the summer departures of Laurent Koscielny, Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey, all of whom were part of Emery's preferred five-man captaincy unit last term.

Xhaka has worn the armband for the Gunners in six of their eight outings so far this season, although his performances have been questioned and he was booed off by sections of the Arsenal fans just last week.

BBC Sport reports that the Swiss midfielder has nonetheless been appointed as the new club captain, with either Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set to be confirmed as his vice-captain.

Rob Holding and Mesut Ozil reportedly complete the five-man group, with summer signing David Luiz missing out.

Arsenal's next outing comes on Monday night when they face rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.
