Abou Diaby thanks Arsene Wenger for boost in confidence

Abou Diaby admits that having the faith of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is important as he plans a first-team return.

Abou Diaby is pleased that Arsene Wenger is continuing to provide his full support as the Arsenal midfielder aims to regain full fitness.

The French international made just five first-team appearances last season thanks to persistent injury problems but believes he is finally ready to repay Wenger's faith this season.

Diaby said: "The manager's support makes me feel confident. It is always nice to have the confidence of the manager.

"Pre-season is definitely important. I need to be fit to complete the season, so this is a crucial time."

Diaby will continue working towards a Premier League return by playing in Arsenal's glamour friendly against Manchester City in Beijing on Friday.
