Nicklas Bendtner could be forced into the Arsenal squad against Sunderland this weekend due to injuries sustained in the international break.

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner could be about to return to the matchday squad to face Sunderland on Saturday, according to the Danish media.

The Denmark striker hasn't featured for the Gunners in over two years, having endured season-long loan spells at the Black Cats and Juventus respectively.

The 25-year-old was widely expected to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer having fallen out of favour with manager Arsene Wenger, but a move away failed to materialise due to his reportedly high wages.

Bendtner has since vowed to fight for his place at Arsenal and could be drafted into the squad that travels to the Stadium of Light this weekend due to injuries.

Theo Walcott and Yaya Sanogo are both doubts for the clash with Sunderland having returned from the international break with problems, and Arsenal are already without the injured duo of Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Hinting at his comeback to the team, Bendtner recently wrote on Twitter: "I am working tremendously hard and will return soon."

Bendtner has been named in Arsenal's 25-man Premier League squad for the season.
