Arsenal are fined £40,000 for surrounding the referee against Oxford United, but Tottenham Hotspur's Richarlison escapes punishment for his clash with Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal have been fined £40,000 for the second time this month by the FA following their improper conduct against Oxford United, but Tottenham Hotspur's Richarlison will escape an FA charge for his altercation with Aaron Ramsdale.

Mikel Arteta's men appealed for a penalty in their FA Cup tie with Oxford on January 9 after the ball appeared to strike Elliott Moore on the hand from Albert Sambi Lokonga's effort.

Lokonga was one of a few Arsenal players to remonstrate with referee David Coote, only a week after Arteta's men were charged with a breach of FA rules for a similar incident in their Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

The Premier League leaders were fined £40,000 last Friday after admitting the first charge, but while they denied the second, they have been hit with an identical punishment for their behaviour at the Kassam Stadium.

A statement from the FA read: "Arsenal FC has been fined £40,000 after its players surrounded a match official during the FA Cup tie against Oxford United FC on Monday January 3.

"Arsenal FC denied an allegation from the FA that the club had failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 34th minute, and the club also requested a hearing.

"An independent Regulatory Commission subsequently upheld the allegation and imposed the club's fine. Its written reasons for this decision will be published in due course."

Arsenal nevertheless progressed past Oxford courtesy of Eddie Nketiah's brace and Mohamed Elneny's header before meeting bitter rivals Tottenham in the North London derby last Sunday.

Arteta's side comfortably saw off their local adversaries 2-0, with Hugo Lloris scoring an own goal before Martin Odegaard's effort in the first half, but ugly scenes marred the contest at the full-time whistle.

Arsenal goalkeeper Ramsdale taunted the Tottenham fans behind his goal, kissing the badge and sticking his tongue out to the crowd, and Richarlison ran over to confront the England international.

Richarlison angrily exchanged words with Ramsdale before shoving his hand in the face of the Arsenal man as he made his way behind the goal to collect his belongings, and the pair had to be separated by a steward.

The Brazilian's actions led to calls for him to be charged by the FA or given a retrospective red card, but the Daily Mail states that the governing body have seen no reason to take action.

The report claims that the incident has been reviewed by the FA and was also witnessed by match officials in the stadium, but Richarlison will escape punishment.

Following his set-to with Richarlison, Ramsdale was kicked in the back by a fan who made his way onto the advertising boards, and both the goalkeeper and Granit Xhaka had to be restrained from chasing after the individual.

A 35-year-old man, named as Joseph Watts from Hackney, has been charged with assault in connection with the incident and will appear at Highbury Magistrates Court on Friday.
