Arsene Wenger relying on experience against "outstanding" Robert Lewandowski

Arsene Wenger claims that Arsenal must be "shrewd" against Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski on Tuesday night.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that the experience of his defenders will be key to stopping Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski on Tuesday night.

Lewandowski heads into the game at the Emirates Stadium in impressive form after scoring 16 goals for club and country in the early stages of the season.

Stopping the Poland international could be the biggest challenge for Wenger, who is relying on Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny to deliver the goods as Arsenal bid to recover from defeats in their opening two Group F games.

"First of all the best way to combat him is for us to have the ball," the Gunners boss told reporters.

"After that you have to be shrewd with him because inside the box he is outstanding, because of his technique, his finishing, his movement inside the box.

"That's where we need the experience of Mertesacker and Koscielny to deal with that because that will be one of the important things on the night."

Bayern are currently top of Group F on six points from two games.
