Ajax have said that they are desperate to keep Newcastle United target Vurnon Anita and have offered the midfielder a new contract.
Anita has been the subject of persistent speculation linking the Dutch international with a move to the Premier League.
Marc Overmars, director of football at Ajax, said that the club will do everything they can to keep Anita.
He said: "We don't want to lose Vurnon. We have offered him a new deal until 2015 or 2016.
"The coaches are very clear and see Vurnon as an important player. We don't want to let go of him. He will become one of the top earners at Ajax with his new contract."
The 23-year-old has played three times for Holland at senior level and can play in a number of positions, including defensive midfield and full-back.
