AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani says that Massimo Ambrosini's 18-year stint at the club is to come to an end later this month.

Massimo Ambrosini's 18-year stint at AC Milan will come to an end later this month, CEO Adriano Galliani said today.

The 36-year-old joined the Rossoneri from Cesena in 1995 and has been at the club ever since, aside from a loan spell at Vicenza in 1997-98.

"Our path and that of Ambrosini are separating, as he will not renew his contract with Milan," announced Adriano Galliani.

He had been the captain, and Galliani also revealed who will next take the armband.

"If Christian Abbiati agrees, then the next captain of Milan will be [Riccardo] Montolivo," he added.

It is not yet known whether Ambrosini will retire or look elsewhere for football. West Ham United have been linked with a possible move for the midfielder.
