Catania 1-1 AC Milan

An inspired performance from goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo helps Catania hold AC Milan to a 1-1 draw.

AC Milan have extended their lead at the top of Serie A to five points, despite being frustratedly held to a draw by Calcio Catania at Stadio Angelo Massimino.

Massimiliano Allegri's league-leaders started well and Catania keeper Juan Pablo Carrizo was twice forced into good saves to deny Urby Emanuelson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Argentine stopper could do nothing to prevent his side falling behind after 34 minutes though. Robinho latched on to Ibrahimovic's cleverly-disguised through pass and buried the ball into the bottom corner.

Milan had appeared rock-solid defensively and dominated the contest in terms of possession.

However, the hosts levelled the scores 12 minutes into the second half with their first shot on target.

Nicolas Spolli reacted quickest to Nicola Legrottaglie's flick-on and volleyed home from close range.

The visitors responded well to losing their lead and almost claimed a decisive second, but Philippe Mexes
dragged his shot wide from close range before Ibrahimovic was again denied one-on-one by the impressive Carrizo.

Second-placed Juventus will reduce the gap on Milan to just two points if they win their game in hand at home to Napoli tomorrow night.
