Strictly 'planning to introduce two same-sex couples'

Strictly Come Dancing will reportedly introduce two same-sex couplings this year.

Strictly Come Dancing will reportedly feature two same-sex couples as part of this year's lineup.

Speculation has been rife for years that the BBC ballroom show would make the move to pair celebs with professionals of the same gender and 2020 looks set to be the year that it will finally happen.

According to The Sun, producers have decided to cast both a female couple and a male couple for the new run, which is due to begin in October.

"This is another intriguing twist in the journey," a source told the newspaper. "Everyone assumed producers would simply pair gay pro Johannes Radebe with a male celebrity but they felt that was too obvious.

"Then there was a suggestion they would opt to put two women together. But nobody expected having pairings of both genders."

This year's series is said to have been reduced from 13 weeks to just nine as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
