Phillip Schofield: "Talking saved me"

Phillip Schofield reveals that he found "strength in talking" as he struggled to come to terms with his sexuality.

Phillip Schofield has admitted that talking to others helped him get through his darkest moments as he struggled to come to terms with being gay.

The 58-year-old came out on This Morning in February and in a subsequent interview revealed that he had pondered taking his own life, only to be 'hauled back' by his wife and two daughters.

In a post on Twitter, Schofield shared a link to a fundraiser for mental health charity Guernsey Mind which had been started by a grieving mother who lost her young son to suicide less than a week ago.

The presenter captioned his post: "Another heartbreaking story. There is strength in talking. Please don't try to fight your head on your own. Talking saved me #bekind #talk"

Schofield is also the face of ITV's recent campaign to promote Mental Health Awareness Week.
