Mark-Paul Gosselaar confirms Saved By The Bell delay

Mark-Paul Gosselaar confirms that the Saved By The Bell reboot was still filming before the coronavirus lockdown.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar has confirmed that filming on the Saved By The Bell reboot had not been completed before the coronavirus lockdown.

The new series - produced for streaming service peacock - will follow a fresh group of kids at Bayside High and will feature appearances from original stars Gosselaar (Zack), Tiffani Thiessen (Kelly), Mario Lopez (AC) and Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie).

A first trailer for the show was released last week but both Gosselaar and Thiessen were absent, and now Gosselaar has confirmed that he had yet to film his scenes before the shutdown kicked in.

"They had been in production since January," he told Entertainment Weekly. "But because of my schedule and because of Tiffani Thiessen's schedule, we could not join the production when it started. We had about two weeks left of filming, just Tiffani and my footage, but it's put on hold.

"So, hopefully we are going to get back to that... whenever we can."

The news means that the new series is unlikely to be released until the end of the year at the earliest.
