BBC acquires Psycho prequel Bates Motel

The BBC acquires all five seasons to Psycho prequel series Bates Motel for iPlayer.

The BBC has announced that it has picked up the rights to all five seasons of Bates Motel for iPlayer.

The show - a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece Psycho - starred Freddie Highmore as a teenage version of the murderous Norman Bates and aired between 2013 and 2017.

"Bates Motel is modern reinvention of the classic spine-tingler," said Sue Deeks, the BBC's head of acquisitions.

"Full of suspense, intrigue and unexpected twists, it will keep BBC viewers mesmerised until the very end."

Bates Motel - due to become available in the coming weeks - is just the latest of the BBC's acquisitions for iPlayer, joining the likes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Pretty Little Liars and Heroes on the service.
