BBC acquires horror anthology The Terror for iPlayer, BBC Two

The BBC acquires the first season of horror anthology The Terror for iPlayer and BBC Two.

The BBC has acquired the first season of horror drama The Terror from US network AMC.

The 10-part miniseries, which aired Stateside in 2018, is a fictionalised telling of the true story of Captain Sir John Franklin's lost expedition to the Arctic in the 1840s.

Based on the book of the same name by Dan Simmons, The Terror follows a group of men on the doomed trip as they attempt to survive the elements - and more frighteningly, each other.

Sue Deeks, who bought the show for iPlayer and BBC Two, said: "The Terror is an atmospheric, character-driven drama, full of menace and foreboding, which will thrill and chill BBC viewers all the way to its icy denouement."

The BBC has not yet acquired the second season of the show, titled The Terror: Infamy, which is set 100 years later in a Japanese internment camp during WWII.
