Scream 5 pencilled in for January 2022 release

Paramount confirms that Scream 5 has been scheduled in for release on January 14, 2022, with filming due to begin in North Carolina later this year.

Paramount Pictures has earmarked January 14, 2022 as the release date for the highly-anticipated fifth movie in the Scream franchise.

The latest instalment of the horror franchise will see Courteney Cox and David Arquette reprise their roles - 25 years after the first film was released - with Neve Campbell also thought to be in talks about returning as main protagonist Sidney Prescott.

The movie is being helmed by Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for their work on Ready Or Not, while the script comes from James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready Or Not).

Filming had been slated to begin in Wilmington, North Carolina in May but has been pushed back to later this year due to the complications caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

The January 2022 release date comes at the start of MLK holiday weekend in the US - one of the plum spots for new releases in the schedule.
