Henry Cavill: 'I want to play Superman for years to come'

Henry Cavill admits that he would like to continue as Superman for "years to come".

Henry Cavill has outlined his wish to continue in the role of Superman for "years to come".

The 37-year-old has played Clark Kent and his superhero alter ego in three big-screen movies - Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League - since 2013, although the character has not been seen since the much-derided latter outing.

A recent report claimed that Cavill is in talks to return as Superman, albeit not as the main character, in upcoming DC movies.

"I've always been a fan of Superman," Cavill told Sir Patrick Stewart in an interview for Variety. "With a character like that, you carry the mantle with you off set. And it becomes part of your public representation.

"When you meet children, children don't necessarily see me as Henry Cavill, but they might see Superman, and there's a responsibility which comes with that. Because it's such a wonderful character, it's actually a responsibility I'm happy to have, and I hope that I get to play more of Superman in years to come."

Upcoming DC films which could feature Cavill's Superman include Shazam 2, Black Adam and Aquaman 2.
